Submission Guidelines

To submit to MMM 2026, please go to the MMM 2026 conftool submission site: https://www.conftool.pro/mmm2026/.

The conference accepts 4 types of contributions:

  • Regular papers, describing novel results in the conference research topics
  • Special session papers, describing novel results that are focused on selected narrow topics
  • Demonstration papers, giving an overview of new interesting software or methods
  • Video Browser Showdown (VBS) papers for the video browsing contest attendees

General Guidelines

All paper submissions must conform to the formatting instructions of Springer Verlag, LNCS series, Springer's Code of Conduct, and must strictly adhere to the submission schedule. In addition, information regarding submission lengths, anonymization, or expected structure is detailed below for each contribution type separately.

Each accepted contribution (regular, special session, VBS, demo paper, etc.) must be associated with one distinct full conference registration, i.e., each accepted contribution requires a separate registration. Accepted contributions will be published as part of Springer's LNCS series.

MMM2026 will be an onsite-first event featuring both oral and poster presentations. In particular, presenting authors of all oral presentations are expected to attend the conference in person, while posters will be presented in hybrid onsite/online sessions, so virtual poster presentations will be possible. Note that the authors of accepted papers can select between in-person and virtual attendance during the registration process.

We encourage authors to enhance the reproducibility of submitted works by sharing auxiliary materials (datasets, source codes, proof details, raw results, appendixes, etc.) online and linking these resources from the submissions. To facilitate anonymous sharing, authors may use platforms such as https://anonymous.4open.science/ or https://osf.io/. Please note that each submission must remain self-contained, and reviewers are not required to consult the auxiliary materials; they may do so at their own discretion.

The policy of MMM2026 for preprint and arXiv follows the Springer's regulation, see the section 3 of PDF file for the details.

For publishing in Open Access or Open Choice, please refer to the Springer webpage for prices and additional information. The invoicing address and the CC-BY licence-to-publish agreement are needed at the same time as the files for the publication.

Mandatory reviewing policy

This year, we made a thorough effort to expand the Program Comittee with additional experts willing to provide constructive feedback to the submitted papers. Nevertheless, in the case of excessive overall volume of submissions, we may call upon the authors of the submitted papers to contribute to the joint effort of making the review process fair and thoroug. In particular, for each submitted paper, we ask the authors to nominate one of them as a candidate for the mandatory reviewing. In the case of such event, we will use the list of nominated authors and assign them to the mandatory reviewing duties to complement the reviews of the regular PC members. We will keep the mandatory reviewing load low (1-2 papers at most) and communicate this well-ahead of the reviewing deadlines so that the nominated author has ample time to complete the reviews.
Nevertheless, failing to complete the mandatory reviews on time (unless in rare, well-justified cases) or providing LLM-generated or superficial reviews may lead to desk-rejecting the submission of the nominated author.

Regular Papers

Regular paper submissions are limited to 12 content pages, including all figures, tables, and appendices, in the Springer LNCS style. An additional 2 pages containing only cited references are allowed.

Regular papers will be peer-reviewed in a double-blind review process. Thus, the submissions must be properly anonymized.

Special Session Papers

In general, special session paper submissions are limited to 12 content pages, including all figures, tables, and appendices, in the Springer LNCS style. An additional 2 pages containing only cited references are allowed. Some special session calls define additional submission types with separate page limits (e.g., short papers).

Unless explicitly stated otherwise in the call text for a specific special session, all contributions will be peer-reviewed in a double-blind review process. Thus, the submissions must be properly anonymized. Accepted special sessions:

Demonstration Papers

Demo submissions are limited to 6 pages + maximum 2 pages of references in the Springer LNCS style and should include the following:

  • Title: A concise and descriptive title for your demonstration.
  • Authors: Full names, affiliations, and contact information for all authors.
  • Abstract: A brief overview (up to 2,000 characters) highlighting the objectives, key features, and novelty of your demo.
  • Technical Details: A comprehensive description of your system's setup, specifying all necessary hardware and software requirements.
  • Relevance: Clearly explain the significance and impact of your demonstration to the broader MMM community. How does it advance the field of multimedia?

The demonstration papers will be peer-reviewed in a single-blind review process.

Additional Requirements

In addition to your written proposal (submitted as a 6-page paper in LNCS format), you must include an appendix (maximum 1 additional page) containing:

  • A link to a video (maximum 3 minutes) that clearly showcases your demonstration. This video should illustrate what attendees can expect to see and, crucially, how they can interact with your system or application during the demo session.
  • A brief description of any specific requirements for the demo setup, such as power supply, internet access, or space.

Video Browser Showdown Papers

Video Browser Showdown (VBS) papers are limited to 6 pages (including all figures and tables) + maximum 2 pages of references in the Springer LNCS style. The submission should include a detailed description of the video search tool (including a screenshot) and how it supports interactive search in video data. Submissions will be peer-reviewed to ensure maximum quality. Accepted papers will be published in the proceedings of the MMM conference.
In the public VBS session, each system needs to be presented (typically as a concise introductory video, or sometimes as a poster - but this will depend on the local situation and announced a few weeks before the competition).
The VBS papers will be peer-reviewed in a single-blind review process.
